Xinyi River

Xinyi River passes through cities of Suqian, Xinyi County (Xuzhouís jurisdiction), and Lianyungang, and finally empties into the Yellow Sea. The river is a man-made river in 1949 in order to control flood. It is totally 146 kilometers, starting at the Lake Luoma and draining its lake water.

The river is vulnerable in controlling flooding and there have been lots of efforts made to improve its capacity of flood control. As the river is considered as one of tributaries of the Huaihe River, many efforts carrying on in recent years are focusing on the projects that overlook Xinyi River together with other relevant rivers in this area.

In 2006-2007, a sophisticated project is underway to improve the riverí exit to the sea so that it will increase the riverís capacity for flood control.
