Suzhou Guangfu Airport

Location: Suzhou
Code: SZV
Position: 39460"N, 98340"E, Elevation 3 m

Address: Used as a military airport right now

22 kilometers southwest to the Suzhou City proper, Suzhou Guangfu Airport first opened in 1973 as an air force base. Since 1994, the airport opened partially to civil flights with two scheduled flights: one from Suzhou to Beijing and the other from Suzhou to Foshan.

Later the civil aviation programs were shut down and the airport returned to the air force base and has partially been used as a cargo transportation. For most travelers, they fly to Shanghai and then take a bus or cab from Shanghai airport (about an hour and fifteen minutes in driving) or a train to Suzhou (about an hour).

Suzhou is 80 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and 120 kilometers away from Shanghai Pudong International Airport; 200 kilometers away from Nanjing Lukou International Airport. Wuxi's Shuofang Airport is one of other alternatives for Suzhou's travelers to choose.

The Suhu Airport Expressway (Shanghai - Suzhou), which has cost 389.5 billion yuan, has now been completed. The time taken from Suzhou to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport has been reduced from the original 3 hours to about an hour now, which brings great convenience to Suzhou travelers.
