Mid Autumn Festival

The Mid Autumn Festival is a traditional festival in China and is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth moon, around the time of the autumn equinox. Many people referr to it simply as the "Fifteenth of the Eighth Moon". In the Western calendar, the day of the festival usually occurs sometime between the second week of September and the second week of October depending on the lunar calendar. This year's festival is on the October 3.

2009 National Day Holiday season

How will you spend your 8 days for the coming National Day Holiday 2009? 

China authority has announced that the 2009 National Day holiday season will cover October 1-8. And the holiday season includes the National Day and the Chinese traditional Middle Autumn Festival.

As an expatriate, I am not sure how many days your company may give to you/your family but locals will get 8 days for the holiday. There are some suggestions and advices.

Nanjing opens new Yangtze River Tunnel

A new 6,042-meter six-lane traffic tunnel under the Yangtze River in Nanjing now spans both sides of the river as of Saturday, August 22, 2009. It is the third traffic tunnel built under the Yangtze River, China's longest river.

The 3.3-billion-yuan ($483 million USD) traffic tunnel, which connects the city on both sides of the river, is expected to open for traffic in June next year.

Cars will be able to travel at a speed of 80 km per hour in the tunnel, and traffic flow will actually double that across the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge to help ease traffic across the Nanjing section of the river, which lies inside the booming Yangtze River Delta.
