Senior legislator Hua Jianmin announces the opening of the 2008 China Navigation Day celebration activities Friday morning, July 11, 2008.

July 11 is China Navigation Day. To commemorate this, a series of celebration events were held on Friday in Taicang, a port city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou City, in east China's Jiangsu Province. Back 600 years, the well-known navigator, Zheng He, started his first expedition, in which he was a royal admiral in control of the huge fleet, including 317 ships and armed forces of 28,000 troops. Taicang at that time was a port town.

The senior legislator announced the start of the China Navigation Day celebrations, China News Service reported. China launched its first Navigation Day in 2005 to mark the 600th anniversary of the famous navigator's travel to the West.
