China's milk scandal continues: 27 arrested

China police have arrested 27 people as the probe intensifies into those responsible for the baby milk scandal that has sickened 53,000 children and spread around the world, state media said Tuesday. 
 
The arrests in northern China came as countries recalled more China-made diary products contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine at the heart of the scandal that has tarnished China's reputation aboard.

Anglo-Dutch company Unilever announced it was recalling brands of Lipton milk tea powder in Hong Kong and Macau after testing showed them tainted with melamine which is normally used to make plastics.

China’s Golden Week starts: National Day Holiday

This year’s China second Golden Week, the National Day Holiday,  formally starts from September 29 to October 5, 2008, total 7 days.
 
If the Olympics hadn’t caused enough problems of exporters, wholesale dropshippers and anybody else sourcing from China then this definitely will. The country is shutting down for a week. It’s the National Day Holiday Break and anybody looking to get anything to them from China’s this week had better get their order in by Thursday, September 25th.

At the start of October China is going to take a week off to celebrate the founding of the People’s Republic of China, also known as National Day. You’d have to say that the 2008 National Day holiday couldn’t have come at a better time with the entire country having just hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2008 Paralympic Games. As a result there’s many people looking for a long break. For most Olympic and Paralympic volunteers, the break, maybe starting as early as September 26, may be their formal time to say a goodbye to the Games.

Brazil iron ore giant suspended ore supply to China

Chinese steel enterprises are in a crisis and are taking serious measures as reducing production and purchasing domestic iron ore in response to the supply suspension by Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) of Brazil.

The largest iron ore supplier, CVRD, considered to increase its iron ore price for Chinese market by 11 percent to 11.5 percent on the ground that the Asian market price was much lower than European price.

After the denial of Chinese steel enterprises, CVRD decided to stop supply for the Chinese market.

Beijing Paralympics Close with Spectacular Ceremony

The British capital will welcome the XXX Olympiad in 1409 days' time, with the XIV Paralympics following 33 days later after London mayor Boris Johnson was handed the International Paralympic Committee flag.

As in the Olympics, China demonstrated their sporting supremacy in the Paralympics, finishing with an astonishing 89 golds and 211 medals in all. For the fourth and final time as hosts, China then put on a cultural and sporting extravaganza which left 91,000 people in the Bird's Nest Stadium and millions of television viewers around the world dazzled.

The athletes were in the stadium when the fiesta began, with a nominated flag-bearer bringing their nation's flag around the athletics track.

Swimmer David Roberts, who won four golds for Britain in his third Games to draw level with Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson on 11, proudly carried the Union Flag.
