Jiangsu found 4 more H7N9 bird flu cases

China's CCTV reports four more cases of H7N9 avian influenza in 4 cities of Jiangsu province after Shanghai reported earlier 2 cases.

According to the Jiangsu provincial health bureau, the four patients were all in critical condition and receiving emergency treatment. Only one patient, a butcher, is known to have had contact with poultry. The four cities are Nanjing, Suzhou, Changzhou and Suqian

43 people who had been identified as having been in close contact with the four patients in Jiangsu were under medical observation but had not developed flu like symptoms. Turning to the H7N9 case in Anhui. The Anhui woman infected with avian influenza is still critically ill in a hospital in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. She became infected in Chuzhou, in eastern Anhui province. She is known to have had contact with live poultry while shopping in a food market. She was first found to have developed symptoms such as fever, coughing and breathlessness. The 35 year-old woman was admitted to a hospital on March 20th.


Have not yet demonstrated the virus could go human-to-human transmission.
