Huge collection of the "Nanking Cargo" Treasure is for sale in Amsterdam, the Netherlands!

The Dutch East Indiaman, Geldermalsen under the 33 year old captain Jan Diederik Morel was barely 5 years old when she ran aground on the reefs of Geldria’s Droogte, (The Admiral Stellingwerf Reef), which hides just below the surface of the sea some 12 miles from the island of Bintan in the South China Sea, very near to what is Singapore today, and sank January 3, 1752.  In 1986 Michael Hatcher discovered the sunken ship and her treasure.

South and North of Jiangsu

The Yangtze River, the longest in China, cuts China into two parts through its heart, the north and the south both geographically and culturally. This cut also divides Jiangsu Province into two divisions, the North and South of Jiangsu.

The southern part of Jiangsu includes major cities of Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou and Zhenjiang Cities, and most part of Nanjing. The northern part embodies the rest of the province, including Nantong, Taizhou, Yangzhou, Huaian, Suqian, Xuzhou and Lianyungang. The north occupies three fourths of the province's territory. Many of expats view this region backward and poor. The south in other side is one of the most developed areas and the richest region in China. Jiangsu stays the number one among global capitals investments

The Year of tiger went but the Year of Rabbit comes.

The province of Jiangsu, a rich coastal province in eastern China, is still listed as the number one area in China, achieving an actual foreign investment of more than 28 billion US dollar, up 12 percent over the previous year.

The size of the investment keeps in the first place in China for eight years in a row despite the global recession since for the past few years, according to the Commerce Department of Jiangsu Province. Foreign capital utilization was better structured in the year of 2010. Growing rates of the actual utilized foreign capital of both primary industry and tertiary industry were higher than that of secondary industry, respectively by 49 points and 15 points. Another progress was contributed by the soaring number of huge projects signed.

New project for tobacco control

A foreign-funded tobacco project was launched in 10 Chinese cities including Nanjing and Suzhou of Jiangsu Province on Tuesday, following public outcries for stronger political will from top leadership to protect people from the deadly smoking epidemic. 

It is the second phase of the Tobacco Free Cities project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in China. The first was launched in seven cities, including Ningbo and Qingdao, in mid-2009. The new 10 cities' vice-mayors signed official pledges at the launch to strive to create tobacco-free cities for residents in return for shares of the $2.2 million project fund.
