Changzhou and cars

Postby FUllmoonfever » Sun Sep 11, 2011 8:32 pm

I just got back (to Indiana) from Changzhou. One of the things I can't help but notice is the number of cars there are on the road compared to just a couple years ago. I can't figure out where they will park all these cars. Even some of my friends that could not afford a car 2-3 years ago now own one. Do you own a car or do you even want to?

Some of these China-made cars are very cheap, less than $10k.

Unlike Canada/US, most cars in China park or stay within urban residency areas instead of the suburb. Many times I drove during afternoon rush hours between 5-7 pm on expressways/highways which link these urban districts to the suburbs. The traffics were usually not heavy even when the traffics were completely jammed on urban streets at the time. This is quite different with traffic situations we met in North America, in which many cars travel every day between urban offices and suburb homes.

The number of cars is not the first big problem in China. Bad streets poorly designed traffics and offenders are among the worst and they make traffic chaos. Many cities in this country are still new in dealing with traffic congestion and they need years...

yes, some cars are cheap, but I'm surprised by the number of expensive cars I see.

Have an appointment in Changzhou--early in the morning but would like to return to Shanghai in the afternoon. Would prefer car to train-as I need to be in the Special Electronics Zone. Advice?

better to take a train to Changzhou Train Station then change to a cab. if cost is not a problem take a car or cab anyway, but Shanghai cabbie will not be allowed to drive in Jiangsu. it's a by-law.

China has already felt pain for its roads and traffic now. Shanghai/Beijing etc have already installed new by-laws to limit cars entering city's downtown.
