I'm an ESL teacher with experience in Asia, but have never been to China. I've been offered a university position for 5000(+500 for "food") in Wuxi.
First, is this enough/standard? Can one teach private lessons for extra?
Anything about Wuxi and the expat scene would be helpful. THX

Wuxi is beautiful city and for sure you will feel confortable, safe and convenient. 5000 rmb per month seems lower if the teaching job is a full time position.

Yeah, the position is 18 hrs a week. Can I teach privately to make more?
Thanks for your response.

Yes; it is Lambton; I believe it's the same, yeah? The housing is very good; but I'm really worried about the 5000RMB. How can I live?

It's enough for a non-luxurious life style. Food expense is about 2000 rmb per month. If your housing and medical insurance are covered by the college, it should be fine.

Well; I was offered more money at other places but I'm going to Jiangnan.
I got them up to 6500-better. They pay airfare both ways for a 1 semester contract and the apt is nice.
Hope to meet some of you there in Feb!
