If you don't get free medical insurance coverage and free apartment, you may need to negotiate with your host institution. In general, the institution should provide such benefits to foreign teacheres. Some universities provide air tickets and paid vacations as well. Good luck

Just remember: if you want to buy goods imported into China, they are more expensive than the prices you paid in Europe or North America.

Suggest to bring with you:
Medication
lady's staff (creams, deodorant, tampons...)
high quality chocolate
your laptop, camera

I have travelled to China 5 times in the last 3 years and have throughly enjoyed each visit. Re your question on the beer, yes, you can get a 375ml for around 5RMB, or you can get the 600+ml bottles, mostly very good beer consumed by most of the locals, for around 3RMB at small shops. My personal taste - Not a fan of Qindao beer.
