Hey

Postby transfer_teach » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:51 am

I'm coming to Taizhou in August. I am wondering what people might recommend to adjust to living in China. I'll be there for a year.

Right now I'm in Canada, and preparing myself to come and teach english.

A) Where is a good place to buy a cell phone?

B) Is there any english speakers who get together and play soccer or something like that?

C)What is a good market to buy food at?

D) Good way to learn mandarin? Any recommendations on finding a english exchange partner.

-Thanks
Peace ;)

Hi, let me try to answer some of your questions:
For A: In China, a situation for buying cell phone is the similar with what you have in Canada and you can find some tele companies or in department stores such as Fido, Motorola, Samsung or blackberry, Microsoft, etc.
B: Try to connect your local expats to find out where you can go or whom you could go with.
C: I don't know which city you will stay but in general you can enjoy your local food supermarkets, restaurants or food stores. If the city you will stay is a major city you would have a lot of opportunities to find Western style eateries or stores.
D: Connect more people somebody would like know you or teach you.
Most importantly try to connect or go with your colleagues or your staff to get more info.
All the best! :)

Thanks! Good advice. Nice to know that the situation with the cellphone is similar. Hopefully its not as expensive ;) (i know it isn't- way more reasonable than canada!) Cheers
