Visting Nantong. Yangzhou, Zhenjiang

Postby Jean » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:49 am

HI! We are 3 teachers doing a short term teaching contract in Haimen. This weekend we would like to visit Nantong and carry on to Yangzhou and Zhenjiang then back to Haimen. Any suggestions for the most expedient way to cover this area - train, bus?? We will take a bus to Nantong. Thank you for any input.

Welcome to Jiangsu!!

If you only travel to three cities, it's easy and cheap. My suggestion:

1. From Haimen to Nantong, take a bus and it may cost 20 rmb and less than a hour.

2. When you get Nantong, buy a train ticket, Nantong to Yangzhou (about 150 km), from Nantong Railway Station or Nantong United Ticket office or your hotel. The ticket may only cost 30 rmb for a hard seat. Or, you can buy a hard sleeper, soft seat or soft sleeper. The softs mean you have your own cabin, a seat for sitting or a bed for sleeping. The cost may only less than 100 rmb. Trains are faster and on time. A long distance bus costs about 60 rmb from Nantong to Yangzhou.

3. From Yangzhou to Zhenjiang, you just take a bus and cross the Yangtze River. That's it! Two cities are located on just northern and southern banks of the river.

For your return trip, you can take the same way back. If you feel boring, you can take a train from Zhenjiang Railway Station to Wuxi, then transfer to a bus at Wuxi to Nantong. You will cross the Yangtze River at Jiangyin city, under the jurisdiction of Wuxi, by Jiangyin Yangtze River Highway Bridge.

Have a good trip!

I don’t know if you still have time to take a look of these links before your departure?
