the nanjing honshan zoo had the first hybrid of tiger and lion in September 2002 in China. this hybrid is called tigon from a male tiger and a female lion, and is different with the above liger. the cub only survived 7 days. other zoos in china also had the same hybrid species but all died within a year except two in Shengzheng zoo.
ligers look like lion and have the fur with diffused strips of a tiger. the body trunk is much biger than their parents as they do not inherit the growth-inhibitory genes. but tigons do not exceed their parents, as they inherit the gene inhibits.
