There is no expat community anywhere at all, I believe. I have done everything to find one. I never see any foreigners when I'm in town. The only ones here are four that I know of at the Normal U. If there are others, please show yourselves!

Anybody out there who would like to go out to eat, drink, do anything at all? Travel during time off?

It will be hard to get modern westeners who are used to a high standard of living to move to Huai'an or anywhere in northern JiangSu! Maybe pteachers/people who did not turn up looked up Huai'an on the internet and decided to go to a richer more modern city? Where their life could be easier and more comfortable.

Staying in such a place as Huai'an for more than 1 month for many Westeners who don't speak Chinese and expect a good standard of living would be very hard. Yes, I know Huai'an well and it is not so great, just a poor city in northern Jiangsu that will bore most none chinese to death! I am used to Northern JiangSu now, but I like Southern JiangSu MUCH more than the north!

Southern JiangSu is maybe where they went for a more modern easy way of life! There are many nice cities in Southern JiangSu!The north of JiangSu is poor and backward

My university has two vacancies right now! Not for any sinister reason, simply that new people failed to turn up. It's in Huai'an, Northern Jiangsu, about 2 hours from Nanjing by road. A very nice, large, town with all sorts of (unpleasant, in my opinion)) modern facilities such as KFC and Macdonalds, if you want to eat junk food. Our residences are very close to the centre which is much like HongKong in terms of 'western' shops - if you really want them. Close to our campus are also shops and restaurants of every kind and large, busy markets. I've also found a really excellent gym.

Hong Kong hahahahahaha You are joking! Have you been drinking too much Baijiu?

I have visited Hong Kong many times and Northern Jiang Su is nothing like Hong Kong in any way shape or form!

Northern Jiangsu... anyone Westener would have to be crazy to go there! No wonder the teachers did not turn up! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Btw. Note to all Westeners: Huai'an is a dump! It is NO Hong Kong or even Nanjing (on a bad day), it is a poor city with very little for Westeners.
